Your closet after your colors. What to do and not to do.
You got your colors done! I hope that your experience was beyond your expectations, informative, and meaningful. Most likely you were confirmed that you knew some of your top colors, as well as learned some new colors for yourself. You may realize that some of the “safe” colors in your closet don’t do much for you, and you want to add in some more color than you currently have.
Here is my advice on how to approach your closet after you have your colors done, no matter what your season or results are.
DO NOT toss all of your clothes according to a palette! You must keep what you like and trust YOUR eye. There are more considerations to your clothing than just the color. Please do not purge your closet after getting your colors done, that’s not what it’s about.
Take out what you don’t love. Most likely you have pieces in your closet that you don’t love on you, and you might now know it’s because the color doesn’t make you feel good-those are the ones you donate or toss. In addition, I don’t believe in making yourself wear something that doesn’t make you feel good. If there is a piece of clothing in your closet that you do not like on you-GET RID OF IT!
Buy (choose) one piece that you love in a new color. As you are incorporating new colors into your closet be sure to set yourself up for success and choose the right piece. No maybe’s, there are enough yes’.
Float in colors according to that time of year. Take it one season at a time. During the fall season look to find your best browns or greens. You can also find patterns that have both warm and cool colors in them. Fall is also a great time to find a hat, boots, or cardigan. Upon winter consider buying a sweater or sweatshirt in one of your new colors. During the holidays it is always fun to find a piece or two in your colors. Springtime is another layering time of year and when lighter and brighter colors are reintroduced. Find yourself the right piece in the right pastel. Summer always feels like the safest time to try new colors, especially if they are bold or bright. Find that bright tank, pair of shorts, or swimsuit!
Don’t forget, you can wear your colors beyond your shirt. Fall is also a great time to find a hat, boots, or cardigan. Winter is when you want to have fun with your sweaters, coats, and comfies. Spring and summer the fun turns to skirts, shorts, fun little sets, dresses, and swim suites.
